In terrible conditions both teams played with determination and passion. Ryan soaked up the early pressure and could have taken the lead, with M.Taylor just failing to connect to a couple of through passes. But it was the away team who took the lead after a free kick was not cleared. Ryan were still in the game and pushing forward, with minutes remaining in the half M.Taylor ran onto a ball from J.Mullarkey and shot against the upright.
A couple of positional changes were made at half time and the effect was immediate with C.George breaking through the UPR defence and M.Taylor finishing off a well placed cross. Ryan started to play some good football, but as usual Ryan again failed to clear their lines and UPR were again in front. But Ryan still pressed and the equaliser was not far away C.Sorrell passed to C.George and the scores were level. Ryan should have won the game from this point but UPR had other ideas, with the Ryan defence again failing to clear the ball UPR were again in front. With minutes left and to their great credit Ryan gave it one last effort and this paid off as M.Dimitrijevic was on hand to side foot the ball home.
The next time we play UPR it will be in the League Cup Final. If we keep on making silly mistakes and not pressure the opposition when we are defending we will pay the price. Well played today in terrible conditions but let’s learn from our mistakes.
